| Description: | A white crystalline salt used in dilution with water and the prill used for broadcast applications in horticultural crops and for the turf market. It is prepared commercially by passing ammonia, obtained from destructive distillation of coal, into sulfuric acid and is used as a fertilizer. It is used largely as an artificial fertilizer for alkaline soils. In the soil the sulphate ion is released and forms sulfuric acid, lowering the pH balance of the soil (as do other sulphate compounds such as aluminum sulphate), while contributing essential nitrogen for plant growth. | |
